People in their 50s are at higher risk, and it gets worse in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. The risk of being seriously ill is highest among people above the age of 85.
Older people are more likely to get severe COVID-19 illness. Older people with COVID-19 who become seriously ill may require hospitalization, intensive care, or a ventilator to assist them breathe, or they may even pass away.
You may be more susceptible to developing severe illness from COVID-19 because of additional reasons, such as specific underlying medical disorders. Unless your doctor advises you otherwise, you should stick to your treatment plan if you have an underlying medical condition.
